12 DAYS
Cebu • Malapascua • Moalboal • Bohol
Cebu Islands and Culture
All by road and sea, with no domestic flights: Cebu city's history and food, Malapascua's sharks, Moalboal's sardine run and canyons, then Bohol.
Cebu is where the Philippines' Spanish history began, and it is one of the easiest places to arrive, with international flights straight into Mactan. This trip never needs a domestic flight. You start in Cebu city with its old forts and churches and the island's famous lechon, then head north to the small island of Malapascua, where divers see thresher sharks at dawn and everyone else gets quiet beaches.
Next comes Moalboal on the west coast, where millions of sardines swirl just off the beach and the turtles are easy to find, and where Kawasan's turquoise canyons are close by. The trip ends on Bohol, with its hills, tarsiers and white sand, a fast ferry from Cebu. Divers can turn this into a dive trip; non-divers miss nothing.

Questions travellers ask
1. Do I need to dive?
No. The sardines and turtles in Moalboal are right off the beach with a mask and snorkel. The thresher sharks are for certified divers only.
2. Can I fly into Cebu from Europe?
There are no direct flights, but Cebu has good connections via Singapore, Hong Kong, Doha, Dubai and Seoul, so you can skip Manila completely.
